Patriots Scouting Report On Johnny Manziel Has Leaked, Cites Significant Concerns About Character/Maturity

BroBible has obtained a Patriots scouting report on Johnny Manziel, and according to the document, New England had serious reservations about Manziel’s off-the-field conduct and maturity.

BroBible has the full report, as well as highlights available here, and if the document is legitimate, it is an incredibly elucidating piece about one of the most heavily scrutinized prospects in recent years.

The report goes into detail about various incidents, including his dismissal from the Manning Passing Academy, his family’s involvement in his career, and concerns about his study and practice habits and attitude. One particularly scathing passage from October seems to put the nail in the coffin on whether or not Manziel would fit in with the Patriots.

Has an avg. work ethic, came to 4 of 32 summer ’13 workouts, and quit going to in-season workouts late in ’12. Doesn’t study the game, said to know about 60% of the offense in ’12, never watches film; one source said only time he watched film during ’12 was before ALUN… Knows how to scheme the system, arrogant and full of himself, but he’s not smug to coaches. Has been like this since Day 1, has never gone to class, goes to beat of own drum, but has ultimate confidence… Will never take football seriously enough for our coaching staff, he’ll hate meetings, will have to drag him to work out, etc. The definition of the word maintenance.”

Some doubts have been cast about the legitimacy of the report. Patriots beat writer Jeff Howe says that the grades shown don’t match how the Patriots evaluate their prospects:

In the end, this is all a moot point, as the Cleveland Browns landed Manziel after trading back into the first round with the 22nd overall pick last night. The likelihood of New England selecting a quarterback in the first round seemed slim.
