Tonight, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is set to make his fourth (and most likely final) appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, who is set to retire next year. To celebrate the occasion, Tennessee has released footage from Manning’s first interview on the program, done right before the Heisman Trophy ceremony in 1997.
Manning wound up losing the award to Michigan defensive back Charles Woodson, but it’s still safe to say he is one of the most heralded players in Vols history.
It’s interesting to see that even back then, Manning had no problem handling the always-witty Letterman. The same cannot be said for Manning’s Volunteers, who lost a few weeks later to Nebraska in the Orange Bowl.
