Video: Gary Pinkel Has Changed His Mind, Thinks Student Athletes Should Be Paid

Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel, like many of his peers in the SEC, thinks student athletes should receive extra money. Pinkel released a YouTube video on his website today to explain.

“I think we can give them additional money per semester or per quarter to help them pay back for their sacrifices,” Pinkel said in the video.

Pinkel also mentioned that the SEC is looking into the issue.

“I think it’s the right thing to do, and I think it’s the fair thing to do,” Pinkel said. “It’s not going to be a ridiculous amount of money but it will certainly put a little extra money in their pockets so they can make their college life a little easier.”

Here’s the clip:

Whether college athletes should be compensated has become a hot debate in the college football world, namely due to the ridiculous amount of money the programs generate for schools. Are we headed for change?
