Point Guard Phil Pressey Named Preseason All-American By CBS Sports
Football season is at the midway point and remains the priority for Tigers fans. But pause, for just a moment: CBSSports.com named Mizzou point guard Phil Pressey to the preseason All-American first team.
UCLA’s Shabazz Muhammad, Creighton’s Doug McDermott, Indiana’s Cody Zeller, and Murray State’s Isaiah Canaan join the junior in the starting five.
Pressey, who led the Big 12 in assists per game (6.4), steals per game (2.1), assist/turnover ratio (2.6) during the 2011-2012 season, ranks eighth on the top 100 players list. Guard Michael Dixon and center Alex Oriakhi finished 83rd and 94th, respectively. Dixon clocked key minutes off the Tigers’ bench last season and Oriakhi is a transfer from UConn.
Mizzou got a little love from the CBS basketball experts as well. New analyst Doug Gottlieb picked the Tigers to win the SEC regular season. (The other four experts tapped defending national champions Kentucky.) Matt Norlander and Jeff Borzello picked Missouri to make the Final Four, and Norlander thinks Mizzou will win the big dance. He chose Frank Haith as coach of the year.
Now back to regularly scheduled Missouri football content.
