Mizzou Wins First SEC Game

The Missouri Tigers broke their duck on Saturday by winning their first ever SEC game, 33-10 over Kentucky.
The game was close in the first half and it took awhile for the Tigers’ morning coffee to kick in, as missed tackles and special teams miscues kept the Wildcats in the game. Defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson made one of the plays of the season with a strip, scoop and long return when Kentucky was in the red zone. The Tigers went on to score a touchdown after that turnover, so the individual effort from Richardson was a 10 or 14 point swing.
The Tigers took a 17-10 lead at halftime and quarterback Corbin Berkstresser was in a giving mood at the start of the second half. He threw two awful interceptions, but the Tigers defense bailed out the offense and Kentucky failed to get any points off the turnovers. Because Berkstresser was struggling, the Tigers coaching staff made a risky move by putting James Franklin in at quarterback. Franklin was listed as doubtful at the beginning of the week with a MCL sprain. When Franklin came in, the Tigers ran the ball more and made conservative throws to Dorial Green-Beckham. Franklin finished 6-for-9 with 16 yards passing. Kendial Lawrence led the offense with 108 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Cornerback E.J. Gaines scored a touchdown on fumble return to cap off a happy Homecoming game.
