BREAKING: Johnathan Williams III Chooses Missouri

Johnathan Williams III of Memphis, Tenn. has chosen to attend the University of Missouri.

The 6-foot-8 Senior power forward out of Southwind High School publicly announced his decision at 7pm Central Time today. Touted as “a rare combination of length and skill” by ESPN, Williams is a consensus 4-Star player in this upcoming year’s recruiting class, ranked 25th overall by CBS, 35th by ESPN, and 48th by Rivals.com.

Williams is the Tigers’ third commit in the class of 2013, joining Columbia, Missouri native PG Travis Jorgenson (3-Star, 136th nationally by Rivals.com) and Romulus, Michigan’s Wesley Clark, (4-Star, 69th nationally by Rivals.com). With four seniors currently on Missouri’s roster, Coach Frank Haith now has just 1 guaranteed scholarship to offer for next year, however with PG Phil Pressey potentially foregoing his senior season for the NBA, there may be one more available.

Senior Laurence Bowers is believed to have played a large role in the recruitment of Williams, who goes by the nickname JWIII. Both are from the Memphis area, and have similar builds and playing styles. Williams was in town for the Georgia football game on September 6th for an official visit.
