Report: Kentucky Extends Mark Stoops To 2019, Contract Includes Big Bonuses For SEC Wins

Mark Stoops’ was only 2-10 at Kentucky in his first year as head coach, but with the talent that he is bringing into the program through recruiting, things are looking up for Wildcats football. The SEC isn’t getting any easier, but luckily for Stoops, it seems like UK is keeping everything in perspective. Today, they announced a contract extension through 2019, and his deal is extremely lucrative if he can get the Wildcats back to any kind of respectability—that includes bonuses for winning more than one SEC game.

WDRB’s Steve Andress outlined Stoops’ contract on Twitter after the extension reported. Not everything listed is new information, but it is always a bit jarring to see just what the price of doing business in SEC football really is.

Stoops seems to have things going in the right direction, and there were no immediate expectations in 2013, but giving this type of deal to a 2-10 coach is a big leap of faith for Kentucky.
