Kentucky’s John Calipari: “Boy Is It Nice To Have Returning Players”

Maybe one-and-dones aren’t all they’re cracked up to be? John Calipari’s last two teams, which were very freshman-laden, both experienced significant growing pains. The 2012-13 team fell apart after an injury to Nerlens Noel, missed the NCAA Tournament, and lost to Robert Morris in the first round of the NIT. Last season’s team reacted better to adversity, and made a surprising run to the National Championship Game.

Next year’s team will be a strange one for Calipari, in a good way. For the first time in his UK tenure, veterans will be the core of the team, and expectations are huge. Calipari seems to enjoy having guys return. He posted a picture of his full team the other day, and now he’s expressed his feelings about this year’s squad on Twitter.

Will Calipari stop going after one-and-dones? Probably not, but he may try to reorganize his recruiting efforts a bit if this year is a massive success.
