Can The Honey Badger Return To LSU In 2013? He Wants To…

This story is going to continue to evolve over the next few weeks, undoubtedly.

On Friday, Tyrann “the Honey Badger” Mathieu was dismissed from the LSU football team for violating team rules. This, of course, was unheard of in college football, as Mathieu is a legitimate Heisman candidate, which is extra impressive considering he plays on the defensive side of the ball.

Today, ESPN is reporting that Mathieu is interested in staying at LSU and taking classes, hoping that he can play for the Tigers again in 2013. However, if LSU sticks to it’s rules policy, that may not be a viable option for the Honey Badger.

@LSUBeatTweet: LSU substance abuse policy says “permanent ineligibility,” concerning Mathieu. Miles said FRI he’s off team “permanently.

Furthermore, he may be ineligible to play football this year, even if he does decide to leave LSU and drop down a division.

@BFeldmanCBS: If Tyrann Mathieu became “ineligible” at LSU, he will not be able to play this yr at another NCAA school (FCS or D2 included).

It will be interesting to see if LSU sticks to its policies and keeps Mathieu off of the team, or if it is willing to bend the rules and give him a second fourth chance.
