Photo: Georgia Will Wear Commemorative Decal On Helmets Saturday Honoring Dan Magill

Georgia’s football players will honor Dan Magill with a commemorative decal on their helmets during Saturday’s season opening game against Clemson.

Magill, who died Aug. 23 at the age of 93, was associated with the University of Georgia for nearly all his life. He attended the school and was a varsity athlete on the tennis and swim teams. In 1949, he became the school’s sports information director, a position he would hold for five years before taking over as head coach of the Bulldogs’ tennis program. Magill led Georgia’s tennis teams for 34 years, winning 706 games, the most in NCAA history.

Magill was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1976.

Georgia and Clemson are set to kickoff at 6 p.m. E.T. Saturday.
