Video: Robert Meachem’s Catch Off Deflection Mimics Ricardo Louis’ Miracle Grab
Auburn fans – and Georgia fans – who were watching today’s NFL playoff game between the New Orleans Saints and the Seattle Seahawks, may have experienced a bit of deja vu. With just over five minutes remaining and the Saints trailing by eight, quarterback Drew Brees underthrew a deep ball to wideout Robert Meachem. Fortunately for the Saints, two Seahawks players accidentally deflected the ball forward right into Meachem’s hands. The play resulted in a 52-yard gain.
The play brought back memories of this year’s Auburn vs. Georgia game, during which Tigers quarterback Nick Marshall completed a pass to wide receiver Ricardo Louis in similar fashion. Here are the two plays, for comparison.
Granted, Auburn’s play came on a desperation heave that the Tigers needed to have. Still, Twitter exploded with comparisons right after the play. Even ESPN chimed in.
Serious flashbacks to the Auburn-Georgia game right now.

Yup, the announcers for the Saints/Seahawks game said that pass/catch for New Orleans looked like the end of the Georgia/Auburn game!

Unfortunately for Saints fans, the results of the two games wound up quite different. Auburn held on for victory against Georgia, while New Orleans fell to Seattle in a dramatic finish.
