Auburn’s Backup QB On Nick Marshall: “I Know For A Fact He’ll Win The Heisman”
Yep, it’s about that time of year. The time when college football players, extremely hyped to get the season underway, make very bold statements about either themselves, their teammates, or their program. Auburn backup quarterback Jeremy Johnson, according to AL.com’s Brandon Marcello, took his turn this weekend. Johnson doesn’t just think that his teammate Nick Marshall is going to have a good year – he knows “for a fact” that he’s going to win the Heisman Trophy.
“He led us to the national championship, and we were 13 seconds away,” Johnson said. ” And this year he got better at passing, better at running, better at making reads. He’s become a leader on this team and I’ve never seen him so amped at practice every day the way he is, the way he comes out. So, I know for a fact he’ll win the Heisman.”
As Marcello notes, the two are very close, so it’s no surprise to hear that one has confidence in the other.
Marshall, who led his team to the BCS National Championship Game in his first year starting, threw for almost 2,000 yards and rushed for over 1,000 yards in 2013. If he’s able to improve upon those numbers and lead the Tigers to another special campaign, there’s no reason he can’t be in the conversation. Guaranteeing that he wins it might be a bit much, however.
