There Was A Stabbing At Syracuse’s Orange Madness Last Night
A 25-year-old man was stabbed in the Carrier Dome last during Syracuse’s Orange Madness.
According to the police, the victim is in stable condition at Upstate University Hospital.
Details of the incident are emerging, but it appears as though there was no affiliation between the victim, his attackers, and the university.
Scoop Jardine and Jasmine Jordan, daughter of Michael Jordan, hosted the event.
“We were saddened to learn of the incident at the Dome last night,” Syracuse chancellor Nancy Cantor and athletic director Daryl Gross said in a statement. “There is no place and no tolerance for anything like this, and future Orange Madness events will be designed to prevent incidents such as this. We are proud of the terrific partnership among Syracuse City Police, SU Department of Public Safety, and Carrier Dome security staff, and we are confident that their work will continue to maintain a safe and secure environment for our patrons who come to the Dome to enjoy the hard work and efforts of our student-athletes.”
We’ll have more details from on campus throughout the day.
UPDATE: College Spun Syracuse edior Ben Ivan Glidden was there. Here’s his report:
Throughout the night, I noticed multiple fights break out. One of them was in the stands and the rest of the disturbances were up on the concourse level. I didn’t think too much of them at the time. Tickets are free so anyone can get into the Dome. I didn’t think there was a serious problem until the event ended early. Wale didn’t come out for his second performance. You don’t get a high profile rapper like Wale and cut him off. We left and outside of the Dome there were more police cars than I’ve ever seen. There were flashing lights everywhere. That’s when I knew for sure there was more that just a fight at Orange Madness.
