The Top 10 States With The Highest College Basketball Attendance

infoplease.com
Every year, Kentucky, Syracuse and Louisville battle it out for the top average attendance for men’s college basketball home games. And while the NCAA makes the info readily available on a per-school basis, it never releases that same info on a per-state basis.
In what was basically an exercise in curiosity, we went through each D-1 college basketball school and compiled data to determine which states (in 2012) had the highest attendance, overall. For starters, we learned that of states with D-1 programs (Alaska is the only one without one), Maine checked in last place with just 16,693 fans attending games last year. We also learned that while California, New York and Texas (in that order) have the most D-1 programs, none are among the top three in total attendance.
Without further ado, here are the top 10 states in terms of college basketball attendance for 2012. You can also find a list of the rest of the states in order on the final page.
