Syracuse Turns In Ugly Performance, Still Somehow Wins At Providence
Score: No. 7 Syracuse 72, Providence 66
Star(s): Syracuse: CJ Fair: 23 Pts, 11 Reb, 4 Blk. Rakeem Christmas: 15 Pts, 8 Reb, 3 Blk. Providence: Bryce Cotton: 24 Pts, (5-8 3-pt).
Story: The Orange come out on top in one of the ugliest performances of the season. Not much went well for Syracuse while everything seemed to be going right for the Friars. It was one of those games that I don’t even want to write about because I want to just forget it ever happened. It was one of those games where guys on the opposing team would just launch three-pointers and they’d fall, no matter what.
Providence’s Bryce Cotton started the game off 5-for-5 from deep, putting the Orange in an early hole. SU surged back on the back of its big men, C.J. Fair and Rakeem Christmas, who both had great games. Even James Southerland, who is normally a great shooter, suffered. He shot just 1-for-8 from beyond the arc and even air balled a couple shots.
‘Cuse eventually sealed the win from the foul line, something it couldn’t do against Temple.
Apparently, Syracuse being cold from deep isn’t necessarily a bad thing…
Syracuse went 3-21 on 3-pt FG in win vs Providence (14.3%). Since 2010-11, the Orange are 3-0 when they shoot under 15% on 3-pt FG.
