Syracuse Accepts Buyout To Leave Big East After 2012-13 School Year
It wasn’t a matter of if, but when.
Syracuse has been plotting its departure from the Big East for a while now, but now the date is set in stone. According to ESPN, the Orange will join the ACC on July 1st, 2013, a year before originally anticipated. How did Syracuse manage to pull that off? By agreeing to pay a nominal $7.5 million exit fee.
Attention now turns to the University of Pittsburgh, which is also bolting the Big East for the ACC. Pitt has not yet agreed to a buyout that would enable it to leave after the 2012-13 school year, but has sued the Big East in an attempt to force its way out.
