Pitt’s New Kicker Had Better Not Miss

Kickers are afterthoughts in college football, but they can often win or lose games (just ask Boise State) in the final moments. A kicker’s perceived success is largely tied to whether he/she delivers when it matters, which is why the position is considered to be one of the most high-pressured in sports.

Chris Blewitt has another obstacle to overcome; his last name. Pittsburgh’s new kicker, a true freshman from West Potomac High School (VA), has surely heard all the jokes by now. He’s undoubtedly aware of what his last name suggests.

But as the Washington Post reports, Chris has some serious range, and recently hit a 55-yard field goal in a kicking competition at camp. Blewitt has already been offered the starting job for the Panthers.

“They said I could do whatever I want, start my true freshman year and be their kicker.”

Let’s just hope that Big East and ACC fans don’t get too creative when Pitt comes to town.
