Scoop: According to Ohio State’s student newspaper The Lantern, this year’s Mirror Lake Jump could cost the University over $46,000.

Significance: The school could end up paying over $46,000 to clean and repair the areas surrounding the lake and for the extra police and medical personel on the night of the Jump. The Jump is not a university sanctioned tradition.

Story: The costs given are not final, only estimates made by the figures given to The Lantern. Landscaping around the lake was badly damaged and many personal items, such as clothing and shoes, were left behind. From The Lantern‘s report: “About 16 people were treated at the Wexner Medical Center emergency department, and 12 people were arrested in connection with the jump, said Deputy Chief Richard Morman of University Police.”
