Jerami Grant Steps Up For Short-Handed Orange In Win
Score: No. 7 Syracuse 72, Villanova 61
Star(s): Syracuse: CJ Fair: 22 Pts, 5 Reb, 4 Blk. Jerami Grant: 13 Pts, 5 Reb.
Story: It was yet another slow and ugly game for the Orange, but the team finally pulled away to grind out another home win. Syracuse was out rebounded for one of the first times this season and also turned the ball over 10 times. But it was forcing 16 Villanova turnovers that enabled the Orange victory.
Even more impressive about the 11-point win was that Syracuse did it without its second leading scorer, James Southerland. Southerland was ruled ineligible before the game for undisclosed reasons. Both DaJuan Coleman and Jerami Grant stepped up and played more minutes in his absence. Grant played a career-high 29 minutes after averaging just 11 per game previously.
Jerami Grant is for real. He’s going to be a force once he gains some weight and he’s playing consistently
