Heels Win Sixth Straight, Shut Down Terrapins
Score: North Carolina 79, Maryland 68
Stars: North Carolina: P.J. Hairston 22 Pts, 8 Reb. Maryland: Dez Wells 18 Pts, 6 Reb.
Story: UNC continues its hot streak against a Maryland team that desperately needed a win to help its tournament resume. Carolina improves to 12-5 in the ACC while the Terps fall to 8-9 in conference play. P.J. Hariston was carrying the Tar Heels offense yet again, leading the team with 22 points. Dez Wells had another strong game for the young Terrapins with 18 points, but was one of only two players in double figures.
UNC started off hot and then cooled down before countering a 13-4 Maryland run with a 10-0 run of its own to end the half with a 34-27 lead. The Heels shot 44.8% (5-12 from three) in the first half while holding the Terps to only 37.5% shooting (2-14 from three). Maryland hung around in the second half, never letting Carolina get too comfortable before coming up short in the end due to poor three point shooting (3-23 compared to 10-24 for UNC).
While Hairston plays alpha scoring role, Bullock’s efficiency continues – 19 points on 6-8 FG, 4-6 3FG (and 12 rebs, 2 ast, 3 stl)
