College Football Recap: Week 9

College Football is a crazy game. Never was that more apparent than week nine, where five more undefeated teams took a tumble and knocked themselves out of the national championship race (for now). Unbelievable plays, freak injuries, and wild upsets — we’ll catch you up to speed.

Marcus Lattimore Can’t Catch A Break

Against Tennessee, one of college football’s best players, South Carolina RB Marcus Lattimore, had an absolutely gruesome knee injury that left even Volunteers players crying for him. Lattimore missed the 2011 season with a torn ACL, and people question if he will ever return to the game after this injury.

3 Big Stats

The National Championship Picture

Alabama continued to show why it has been ranked No. 1 in the polls all year as the Crimson Tide trashed Mississippi State. Next up? The LSU Tigers.

Oregon did exactly what it was expected to do against an awful Colorado team.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders were supposed to provide a stiff test for Collin Klein and Kansas State. I think the Wildcats passed that one.

The Fighting Irish can’t beat real times, right? Notre Dame dismissed that notion by bullying the Sooners in Oklahoma and cemented themselves in the national title discussion.

Teams like LSU, Georgia, Florida, and Florida State will be hanging around for a while, waiting for somebody to fall, but the odds are that your BCS National Championship Game will come from two of these top four teams.

Big Upsets

The Washington Huskies found a way to hand Oregon State its first loss of the season.

While it looks silly in retrospect, Notre Dame was an 11-point underdog in Norman last night.

Georgia forced six Florida turnovers, which is too much for even the Gators to overcome. Will Muschamp was NOT happy.

Marqise Lee had well over 300 yards receiving for USC, but that wasn’t enough to keep up with the Arizona Wildcats.

Don’t forget about the MAC? Kent State took down the previously undefeated Scarlet Knights of Rutgers.

Even more MACtion! Miami of Ohio made the Ohio Bobcats’ stay in the polls a short one.

Other Happenings

Some guy went to the Penn State game as the Joe Paterno statue.

Ohio State is continuing its dominating season in which the Buckeyes can’t play a bowl.

Duke may have celebrated too much when it achieved bowl eligibility last week, as the Blue Devils got destroyed by Florida State.
