College Football Recap: Week 6

We are six weeks in to a great season of college football, and the drama continues to ramp up. The title contenders are starting to separate themselves, some pretenders got exposed, and we were treated to a number of amazing finishes yet again. Here’s what you missed in week six:

3 Big Stats

CollegeSpun Teams

- #3 Florida State might have been a bit overconfident going into NC State after they watched the Miami Hurricanes run all over the Wolfpack the week before. However, the Seminoles didn’t leave happy.

- It wasn’t the most impressive performance by the UConn Huskies, as they were thoroughly beaten by undefeated Rutgers.

- Not many teams are more excited with this week’s results than the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. They finally put together a complete performance, against Miami in the Shamrock Series, and then proceeded to watch numerous teams ahead of them in the ranks fall. It was all celebration last night, especially when the news broke that College GameDay will be heading back to South Bend next weekend.

- According to CollegeSpun’s Ben Glidden, the Syracuse Orange had a lot on the line Friday night when they played Pittsburgh. After a tough battle, the Orange came out victorious.

- Temple is undefeated in Big East play after a dramatic finish versus the South Florida Bulls.

- There’s an interesting dynamic brewing in Columbus. The Ohio State Buckeyes are off to a red-hot start, but ultimately will not be able to participate in postseason play due to NCAA sanctions. However, fans put that out of their minds Saturday when the Cornhuskers left with their tail between their legs.

- The USC Trojans got their win out of the way early on Thursday against Utah.

- Mitchell Morse highlighted the Missouri-Vanderbilt game as a pivotal one for the Tigers. However, the end result wasn’t what he was hoping for.

The Rest of College Football

- West Virginia’s Geno Smith continued his Heisman campaign with a big win over Texas. West Virginia’s fans continued to uphold their reputation for rioting and lighting things on fire.

- Northwestern had its first loss of the year given to it by Penn State. At least head coach Pat Fitzgerald has his own personal sweat-wiper to be positive about.

- The LSU Tigers got stuck in the Swamp and didn’t come out okay.

- In a wild halftime promotion, students at Georgia State were allowed to go on the field at halftime as the athletic department made it rain $10,000 on them.

- South Carolina absolutely exposed the Georgia Bulldogs in a 35-7 victory.

- Iowa State ended TCU’s 12-game win streak. Next up? The Kansas State Wildcats, who are coming off a dominating win of their own.
