Charles Barkley Implies Illegal SEC Recruiting Tactics
Well, it wouldn’t be the first time that Sir Charles said something he shouldn’t. Barkley is known to be one of the most colorful personalities in sports, always speaking his mind and often getting himself into trouble.
In his latest outburst, Barkley tells the story of how he tried to illegally recruit NBA star Dirk Nowitzki to play for the Auburn Tigers (Barkley’s alma mater) before he entered the league:
“So I told Nike, find out about this kid, and tell him I’ll give him anything he wants to go to Auburn [...] He would have fit right in in the SEC [...] In the SEC, dude, we make sure you are well taken care of.” ~ Charles Barkley
Barkley’s comments can’t exactly thrill the SEC, which has been accused of illegal recruiting tactics more than any other conference in the past.
The SEC will likely try to write this off as an isolated incident, or simply “Charles being Charles”, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire, right?
