Carolina gets revenge on Virginia in Chapel Hill
Score: North Carolina 93, Virginia 81
Stars: North Carolina: P.J. Hairston 29 Pts (6-12 3’s), 7 Reb. Virginia: Joe Harris 27 Pts (10-13 from the field)
Story: The Heels survived a three-point shootout to improve to 7-5 in the ACC. The Cavaliers, who have been solid all year long in the ACC, dropped to 8-4 in conference play. P.J. Hairston started his second game in a row and came up with a career high 29 points on 6-12 shooting from downtown. Virginia’s Joe Harris has been on a tear recently and, after a quiet first half, started finding his shot. He finished with a career-high 27 points.
The Cavaliers started off the game hot, shooting 62.5% percent in the first half, including 8-13 from three-point range. The Heels found a way to stick with them to keep it tied 40-40 at halftime, despite only shooting 43.3% in the first half. UNC heated up after the break, finishing the game 49.1% from the field and hitting 13-28 threes, compared to Virginia’s 12-21 threes.
