Big Ten Commish Jim Delany May Be Granted Power To FIRE Coaches
This is a game changer.
According to The Chronicle, the Big Ten is currently discussing a proposal that would give Jim Delany and other conference officials the ability to levy “financial penalties, suspension, or termination of employment.”
The new plan, which has been put together in response to the Sandusky scandal at Penn State, gives Delany the power to step in and take action against institutions or individuals that could “significantly harm the league’s reputation.”
The Big Ten is clearly trying to prevent the type of thing that happened at Penn State by creating a higher power that each institution needs to answer to. The goal is to make sure that no individual, program or sport becomes “larger than life” and in turn, compromises the judgement of school officials.
If the plan passes, expect other conferences to look into similar solutions.
