A.J. McCarron Says He “Wasn’t Healthy” And “Played Through A Lot Of Injuries” At Alabama

A.J. McCarron slipped deeper into the NFL Draft than he–and many others–expected. The former Alabama quarterback was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fifth round of the 2014 Draft Saturday afternoon.

One of the big criticisms of McCarron was that he played with a lot of talent in Tuscaloosa, talent that, perhaps, hid some of the quarterback’s faults. In an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio following the draft this weekend, McCarron said he rarely was healthy while playing for Nick Saban.

McCarron during the interview:

“A lot of people don’t realize I wasn’t healthy at Alabama,” McCarron said. “I sacrificed a lot to play for Coach Saban and that university; I played through a lot of injuries and we never leaked it because that’s just the way it is. I just always tried to fight through for my teammates, my team and the University of Alabama but as of now I’m just excited to get to work with coach (Ken) Zampese and learn under Andy Dalton.”
