The 10 Most Expensive Big Ten Football Games Of 2014

Earlier this week, we took a look at the 10 most expensive games in all of college football this upcoming season, using the current listings on StubHub as our guide. The original list definitely has plenty of Big Ten flair, but let’s just take a look at the conference itself. What do we learn from the list below? If Ohio State, Michigan, or fellow midwestern non-Big Ten power Notre Dame is involved, you’ll probably have to throw down some serious cash to get in the building. Each of the prices listed is the least expensive ticket available on Stubhub as of the writing of this article.

10.) Notre Dame vs. Northwestern – $148, November 15

Northwestern heads to South Bend for the first time since 1995.

Notre Dame has history with plenty of Big Ten opponents. Michigan, Michigan State, and Purdue are all common opponents for the Irish, and appeared on the schedule almost every season before Notre Dame made the move to a partial-ACC schedule.

Interestingly, Michigan State is off of Notre Dame’s 2014 slate—that series has been benched until 2016—but the Irish will face Northwestern at Notre Dame Stadium this season. As two private schools fairly local to Chicago, this seems like a natural series, but they haven’t faced off since 1995, when the Wildcats topped the Irish 17-15, breaking a 14 game win streak in the series for Notre Dame that began in 1965. It’s a bit surprising that these two haven’t faced off since then.

9.) Michigan State vs. Michigan – $153.80, October 25

It's a good time to be a Spartan.

It’s a good time to be a Spartan.

Historically, the Wolverines own the Spartans, holding a 68-33-5 series lead against their in-state rival. However, the last five years have been incredibly green. Michigan State has defeated Michigan in four of their last five meetings, by an average score of 32.4-18.

Needless to say, this recent stretch has been a good one for Spartan fans, and there is no better time to make the investment to see them play Michigan live, even if it costs an arm and a leg.

Michigan does have the advantage of coming off of a bye for this game, while Michigan State has Indiana the week before.

8.) Ohio State vs. Rutgers – $154.60, October 18

Welcome to the Big Ten, RU.

Welcome to the Big Ten, RU.

Apparently, Ohio State fans are interested to see what these “Rutgers” guys are all about. The Scarlet Knights make their first trip to Columbus ever in mid-October, and will be greeted by over 100,000 crazed Buckeye fans. It will almost certainly be the biggest crowd that any Rutgers team has ever had to deal with.

Ohio State is gunning for a third straight undefeated regular season, so don’t expect there to be many empty seats for any Buckeyes game, whether its Rutgers or Michigan or Kent State.
