Brian Kelly Says Andrew Hendrix Has Asked For His Release From Notre Dame
Just over a week ago, Everett Golson re-enrolled at the University of Notre Dame to begin working his way back to the position of the Fighting Irish starting quarterback. Golson will battle almost exclusively with Malik Zaire, the freshman who redshirted this season, because today it was announced officially that backup quarterback Andrew Hendrix has asked for his release to play his fifth year elsewhere:

Two years ago, Hendrix was believed to be a frontrunner for the starting QB position, but never was able to beat out starters Everett Golson or Tommy Rees. Hendrix will have his Notre Dame degree in hand after this school year, so he will be free to transfer anywhere without sitting out a season due to the graduate transfer rule. He is rumored to be considering Miami (Ohio), where former Notre Dame offensive coordinator Chuck Martin is now the head coach.
