Video: VCU’s Band Went Full Miley Cyrus Mode To Distract George Mason
2013 was the year of Miley Cyrus in the world of pop culture, and it looks like her influence continues to spill over into the sports realm. In the fall a South Carolina student made an… interesting “Wrecking Ball” parody to garner support for a fan contest. During North Carolina basketball’s loss to Belmont, one intrepid fan distracted James Michael McAdoo with an a cappella version of Cyrus’ hit, causing him to miss a free throw. And last night, VCU’s excellent band took things to a new level, with an energetic cover of “Wrecking Ball” followed by the use of Miley’s companion Space Kitten to distract free throw shooters.
The whole thing was quite effective in that regard—George Mason was only 9-for-16 from the charity stripe and VCU pulled out a 71-57 victory:
