Which College Football Programs Held The Best Home Field Advantage During The BCS Era?

Boise State has some serious HFA

Boise State has some serious HFA

If you’re an avid reader of College Spun, then you know we’re all about BCS-era stats posts. This time around, we thought we’d take a look at which programs held the best home field advantage during the 16-year period.

With the help of the BCS Database, we compiled the home records for every team that played at the FBS football level during the era. While the results weren’t shocking on the whole, it was surprising to see just how dominant some of these programs have been. Here are five quick facts we learned:

  • Ohio State compiled the most home wins during the era, but finished third in home win percentage
  • Oklahoma finished with the best winning percentage of a school in a BCS AQ conference, while Boise State finished with the best winning percentage of any program overall
  • Hawaii played the most home games, largely because of the rule that allows them to play 13 per year before the postseason
  • Duke racked up the most home losses with 70 – the Blue Devils also finished with the lowest winning percentage for a BCS AQ school
  • Oregon State and UCLA, Pac-12 foes, had identical 69-29 records at home during the era

On to the raw stats.
