Well, this is something you don’t see every day. Wisconsin head coach Gary Andersen has confirmed that starting linebacker Chris Borland will kick all field goals longer than 45 yards in Saturday’s game against Illinois. Really.
#Badgers Gary Andersen says LB Chris Borland will handle FGs of 45+ against Illinois. Jack Russell will handle inside of that.

Wisconsin’s kicking woes, which continued last week against Northwestern when Kyle French missed his third kick in eight tries, have apparently forced Andersen to try some new tactics.
Borland has been the star of the Badgers’ defense for the past few seasons, and will now assume the duties as the long field goal kicker as well. Needless to say, it is very uncommon for a linebacker to moonlight as a kicker.
It will be interesting to see how Borland does in his new role. Most kickers, let alone linebackers, have a tough time converting field goals of at least 45 yards.
