Wisconsin Transfer Danny O’Brien Wins Starting QB Job
Wisconsin’s new transfer has now been named its starting quarterback. Former Maryland QB Danny O’Brien will open against Nothern Iowa, tweeted Coach Bielema.
According to ESPN, O’Brien won the starting job over two other Badgers, including senior Curt Phillips. O’Brien transferred to Wisconsin in June after graduating from the University of Maryland this past May.
It seems that Wisconsin has a habit of starting graduate transfer students. ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg says this is the second year Wisconsin will start a quarterback who has already graduated from another university. Last year, the Badgers gave the starting job to Russell Wilson of NC State.
O’Brien will be handling the QB position under the direction of Wisconsin’s new offensive coordinator, Matt Canada.
