Sandusky Scandal May Cost Penn State Its Accreditation Too
Penn State’s athletics program was crushed by the Sandusky scandal. Now its academics could be in trouble as well.
Last evening, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education told Penn State that its accreditation may be in jeopardy, Fox News is reporting. The commission has placed PSU “on warning”, and is now requiring the school to submit a report next month that shows progress towards compliance with governmental requirements. The commission also wants to know Penn State’s plan for the financial issues it now faces.
What’s this mean for Penn State? Accreditation is a major selling point for institutions, and without it, applications could plummet for the school. While it’s still unlikely PSU loses the distinction, the mere possibility doesn’t bode well.
This scandal just never seems to go away.
