Photo: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Flubs Headline About Penn State’s Hiring Of AD Sandy Barbour

We’re not sure how this got through without anyone at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette wondering if this headline could be received poorly, but the paper probably wants this one back right about now.

There’s really no excuse for not using Barbour’s name in the headline. While it is certainly notable that a major university chose a woman to head its athletic department—something that only a handful of FBS schools can claim—there are far better ways of making that point. This also comes on the heels of the Ray Rice suspension and Stephen A. Smith’s poor judgment on ESPN’s First Take when discussing that situation. This was a poor job, at a very precarious time, by the paper all around.
