Ohio State’s Twitter Ban: Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

The first game-week press conference of the Urban Meyer era took place on Monday, but this one had a little something different. According to an Ohio State athletic department policy, members of the media were not allowed to live tweet or use any form of social media during Meyer’s speaking time.
The decision was met with a large amount of criticism, which led to athletics spokesman Jerry Emig rescinding the policy this afternoon. In an email to The Lantern, Emig referenced that he was informed after the press conference that it was being broadcast live on WBNS 97.1 FM in Columbus and streamed on the Ohio State athletic department’s website.
Jerry Emig:
” I simply asked those in attendance to not tweet while an interview was taking place— I realize that courtesy or no courtesy, we can’t ask people to delay tweeting.”
In today’s day and age, information spreads so quickly that trying to delay what gets out to the public seems pointless and petty.
Ohio State takes on Miami (OH) on September 1st at Noon at Ohio Stadium.
