The Top 4 Syracuse University Harlem Shake Videos

The viral internet sensation has finally hit Syracuse University. People all over campus are trying to Harlem Shake their way to Internet fame. I’ve seen a lot of renditions of the Harlem Shake around campus (and there are many more to come) but here are the best of what I’ve seen so far.

4. The Haven Hall edition:

The first 15 seconds of this video worried me a little bit. The overall video and sound quality weren’t great, so I wasn’t optimistic about the overall product. But the second half definitely made up for it. This arguably has better dancing than any video I’ve seen. The one thing it really lacks is the numbers. But props to the people in Haven Hall for the creativity and dancing skills.

3. The freshman dorm elevator edition:

It’s an interesting setting for the shake. An elevator adds the “what the heck is happening?” element that is crucial in the video. The initial dancing is a little weak, but the main character makes up for it with some awesome dancing at the 15-second mark. I give this one a lot of credit for level of difficulty. Shooting video in an elevator is not an easy thing. And shout out to the guy with the Otto The Orange pillow pet.

2. #RotoloClass edition:

As soon as the Harlem Shake started to get big, I knew #RotoloClass would have something to say about it. The class is always on the cutting edge of viral media and you can tell by the video that they did their research on this one. They even took the time to get an actual visit from Otto The Orange. It’s hard to pick out favorites in this video, but I love the weird giant Syracuse puppet thing, the girl in the onesie with the swiffer and the guy on the ladder. Take a moment and see if you can spot the professor. He’s wearing a Harry Potter-esque robe and wizard hat and apparently trying to bring back “the sprinkler”.

1. The College of Visual and Performing Arts edition:

This one was extremely well done and earns the spot as the (current) best Harlem Shake on campus. That could change as more are released. The video is already up over 30,000 views, far more than any of its competitors. This video has one big thing going for it, numbers. So many students turned out for this video that it made for a hilarious scene. There’s a dude in a chicken suit. There’s a someone tossing a stuffed reggae banana up and down in the background. And at the 22-second mark, this guy starts humping the Department of Public Safety vehicle. Overall, a really well-done video but not unbeatable. I challenge others to try to top it.
