Get Ready for the “Battle of the Midway” Between SU and SDSU!

In less than one month, the Syracuse men’s basketball team will face off against San Diego State University…on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier! The two teams will play on Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. Eastern time on the deck of the USS Midway, a retired Navy aircraft carrier that is now a museum. Last year, UNC and Michigan State were the first to play at such a bizarre location. This year, one widely known basketball program in Syracuse will play against an up-and-coming basketball school in SDSU.

While the game was first scheduled earlier this year, it was widely speculated that the game would have to be canceled due to a lack of financial backing after many of the Veteran Day activities that would go along with the “Battle of the Midway” game were also canceled. Luckily, the game was not canceled, so now we all get to see another outdoor college basketball game.

I thought last year’s aircraft carrier game was a great change of pace in terms of setting. I doubt it really affected the game, but it’s cool to see an organized outdoor basketball game televised. Not to mention it’s on a freaking boat!
