4 Updates On Syracuse Basketball Recruiting

1. This past week, SU has received commitments from B.J. Johnson and Chinonso Obokoh. Johnson is a sweet-shooting, long-armed 2-3 and Obokoh is a mobile and active big man.
Neither appear to be huge difference makers as freshmen (Johnson needs to add strength, Obokoh needs to become more skilled), but both will be players that can play a definitive role over the course of their careers. Johnson has tremendous length and can shoot the ball well and Obokoh will actively hit the glass and be a physical defender.
2. With three commits in the 2013 class in Johnson, Obokoh and Tyler Ennis, Syracuse will look to fill out the class with another guard and a forward. At the guard spot, the Orange staff is actively recruiting Rysheed Jordan and Ron Patterson. The big question with Jordan is whether SU can get him away from Philadelphia, where his close relationship with his mom had led some to believe he will ultimately pick Temple. Patterson is a former Indiana commit, spending this year at Brewster, the same school that produced C.J. Fair. Jordan visited for Orange Madness and Patterson looks to be setting up a visit for the next couple weeks. Both would be strong additions, although Jordan is a higher-touted recruit.
3. At the forward spot, SU is keying in on Jermaine Lawrence, Noah Vonleh and Tyler Roberson. Roberson recently visited campus and reportedly likes Rutgers and Syracuse the most. Vonleh reclassified back into the 2013 class and Syracuse will be his first official visit. At this point, Vonleh seems to be the main priority at the forward spot. Lawrence is a sweet-shooting forward from New York that would remind Cuse fans of James Southerland. With the graduation of Southerland and a possible early exit from DaJuan Coleman and Rakeem Christmas, getting a big commitment from the forward spot is pivotal.
4. Syracuse has done a great job of setting itself up for the 2014 class. Chris McCullough and Isaiah Whitehead are the main priorities and sources say SU could very easily get both of them. McCullough is a lengthy forward who could be a one-and-done type player. He has the athleticism to make an immediate impact on the college level. Whitehead is a tough scoring guard out of New York City. Despite national interest, his family has made it clear that they want him to stay close to home so SU is a very viable option for him.
