San Diego State Giving Up On Punting?

According to CBS Sports, San Diego State coach Rocky Long is considering a new strategy that would eliminate punting and field goals from the Aztecs’ game-plan whenever they cross the 50 yard-line into their opponent’s territory. The inspiration for Long’s new strategy came from a high school coach in Arkansas who on-side kicks after every score and never punts.
Apparently there have been several studies done that have given way to statistics showing that punting all the time doesn’t make sense. Let’s hope for coach Long’s job’s sake that those statistics prove true if he decides to implement this new game-plan.
Successful or not, it would make for exciting football.
