I don’t live my life according to the way Manti believes that I should. “Manti Enthusiast” simply means that I support him and believe his side of the story, because I am his friend. If Manti were only to befriend those who share his identical beliefs and values, that wouldn’t make him very Christian, now would it? Please don’t try to argue with someone whose intellectual capacity exponentially exceeds your own.

Ahh, the apology narrative from ND fans in full effect. He knew. He should own it, apologize and move on. His future depends a lot more on explaining that bad ‘Bama game vs this, but only if this mess doesn’t drag on too long.

You’re talking about the school that suggested Joe Theismann change the pronunciation to rhyme with the name of that award, so yes ND fans are indeed well aware of the concept of self promotion.

However, this is a(nother) timeline issue. Nobody in the second week of September thought Te’o had a legitimate shot at the Heisman; even the most ardent ND homer wouldn’t have said that. No one expected an undefeated season; two losses would’ve been considered progress… and no defensive player is going to win a Heisman on a 2+ loss team.

Only after leading candidates like Geno Smith, Denard Robinson, Collin Klein, etc., had dud games did the media start to look around for other possibilities. The idea of Te’o as a Heisman candidate wasn’t a regular point in conversation until the Oklahoma game in October.

For Te’o to have planned out months or years in advance a Heisman campaign as a linebacker is much less believable than the idea of him being naive and faithful among a world of cynics and opportunists.
