Photo: Texas Tech Safeties Coach Trey Haverty Tweets Picture Of Slick Black Matte Helmets

Update: Now we have a Texas Tech employee tweeting “old-school” helmets. It’s officially Texas Tech helmet day, everyone. Again, we don’t know if these are in the works for this season, but they are pretty cool either way.

Original: We’ve seen some awesome helmets in college football over the last few seasons, and if these Texas Tech hats are real, they certainly follow suit.

Texas Tech safeties coach Trey Haverty tweeted out part of a conversation with commit Payton Hendrix, which includes a picture of what look like new black matte-styled Texas Tech helmets with a black logo overlaid.

There’s no question that this is something that recruits want to see, but Tech fans can probably get excited about these as well.

We’ll have to wait and see if the Red Raiders break these out this season.
