Report: TCU Junior Linebacker Joel Hasley Has Retired From Football
Less than a week after left tackle Tayo Fabuluje quit the team for “personal reasons”, the TCU Horned Frogs have lost another player. TCU head coach Gary Patterson announced today that Joel Hasley, junior linebacker and projected starter, has retired from football.
Hasley, a former walk-on from Aledo, Texas, started 10 games at linebacker last year and was second on the team in tackles with 79. The Frogs have now lost two starters in the last week at positions considered to already be weaknesses.
Junior Paul Dawson, a former transfer from Trinity Valley Community College, and junior Jonathan Anderson, who played safety last season before being moved to linebacker in the spring, are expected to compete for the starting spot alongside Marcus Mallet.
TCU beat writer for the Fort Worth-Star Telegram offered an interesting opinion on why Hasley might’ve left:
The one bright side is that TCU’s defense has plenty of experience to go around after starting so many young players last season. Hasley’s departure will certainly be felt but also gives Dawson or Anderson a chance to step up in a big way.
