Oklahoma has huge expectations for this season as Big 12 favorites, but they’ve also had a bit of a tumultuous off-season when it comes to players’ eligibility and suspensions. We recently learned that high profile wide receiver transfer Dorial Green-Beckham will have to sit out for a year after coming to Oklahoma from Missouri, and that freshman running back Joe Mixon would miss the year due to suspension. There have also been issues with the transfer of Texas Tech quarterback Baker Mayfield.
The fourth Sooner who has been in limbo is leading tackler Frank Shannon, who was appealing a full-year suspension after the school investigated sexual assault allegations against him. Shannon is completely absent from the Sooners’ released depth chart.

With Baker Mayfield & Frank Shannon not on depth chart … you’d have to assume all four of OU’s players fighting eligibility lost. #Sooners

Oklahoma should still have the talent to contend for the top of the Big 12 and make a push for a playoff, but losing potentially the team’s best running back, linebacker, and, though the odds always seemed poor that he’d get a waiver, wide receiver, it pretty tough.
