Baylor’s Art Briles: “The Big 12 Goes Through Waco, Texas”

For most of their time in the conference, Baylor was the underdog program in the Big 12, the team with offensive firepower capable of beating anyone, but rarely good enough to put together a complete season. From 1996–the year the Bears joined the Big 12–through 2012, Baylor won zero outright conference championships.

The 15-plus year streak ended this past season. Art Briles’ program went 11-1, starting the year 9-0, rising to a No. 3 national ranking, and won the Big 12, outright. No more is Baylor the underdog. They’re the favorite, Briles says.

Baylor is expected to start the 2014 ranked in the top 10. Oklahoma, however, is projected by many to be better. How will the Sooners feel about Briles’ statement?

The Bears take on Oklahoma in Norman Nov. 8.
