Video: NBA “Drafts” Isaiah Austin

By now, you’ve probably heard the story of Isaiah Austin, the ultra-talented big man from Baylor who, just days before the NBA Draft, learned he had a genetic disorder called Marfan syndrome that forced him to end his basketball career. While there’s no way to comprehend how devastating that had to be for Austin, he did get to live out his dream of being drafted, as the NBA decided to honor him at last night’s Draft. NBA commissioner Adam Silver came out in between picks to explain Austin’s story to the crowd at the Barclays Center, then acting as a representative for the NBA, Silver “drafted” Austin.

It was an incredibly cool moment, and the entire crowd in Brooklyn gave Austin a standing ovation. Austin may end up working for the NBA someday, as Silver offered him a job with the league upon the completion of his degree.
