Photo: Virginia Tech Puts Hokie Bird In Place Of The Famous Empty Trophy Case
The famous empty trophy case at Virginia Tech, which was built in 1999 in anticipation of a Hokies National Championship, remained unfilled 15 years later, and it looks like the athletic department is tired of waiting.
The case, which could be found in the Merryman Athletic Center, has apparently been removed, or at least relocated. In its place is a giant Hokie Bird, which doesn’t represent a National Championship, but at least its something.

This is an interesting move by Tech, if permanent. Apparently the case, which was supposed to be a motivational tool, wasn’t worth the derision it has caused for the trophy-less Hokies.
