Doug McDermott, Former SU Stars Praise Trevor Cooney On Twitter After Career Night
Syracuse’s ascension to the No. 1 ranking in both polls has largely been attributed to the play of Tyler Ennis, C.J. Fair and Jerami Grant. But the only reason the Orange will stay there, for the time being, is the shooting prowess of Trevor Cooney. Cooney almost single-handedly beat Notre Dame Monday night, scoring 33 points on 11-of-15 shooting. The sophomore, who shot 9-of-12 from behind the arc, was the only SU player to hit double figures on the night. He was simply on fire.
It would appear that Cooney got the attention of Creighton small forward Doug McDermott, who compared the Syracuse sharpshooter’s performance to that of his teammate, Ethan Wragge, from earlier this year against Villanova. Wragge scored 27 points on 9-of-14 from long-range.

Some of Syracuse’s former star players are also chiming in, giving Cooney praise.

Cooney’s career night has the Orange sitting at 22-0. You can bet that Clemson will come prepared with some kind of plan to shut him down next Sunday.
