Nike To Set Up 16-Team Tournament Honoring Phil Knight
Nike is Just Doing It again. The company is planning an 80th birthday celebration for co-founder Phil Knight, and the early details have everyone excited.
According to ESPN, sixteen schools, all sponsored by Nike, have agreed to play in the birthday bash tournament. This will be a can’t-miss event, featuring schools such as Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgetown, Ohio State, and more.
Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis has been one of the driving forces in getting this tournament set up. He recently spoke to ESPN about the event:
“We have the commitments to move forward from the 16 schools. What we’re doing is creating the greatest in-season basketball event of all-time.”
Now, Phil Knight doesn’t actually turn 80 until 2018, so the tournament would take place in November 2017 – but this basketball showcase should be well worth the wait.
