Rick Pitino Upset With Russ Smith: “We’re Going To Give Him The Shock Treatment On Monday”

Louisville coach Rick Pitino and his star senior guard Russ Smith have always had a complicated relationship. While Smith has played a key role in much of the Cardinals’ success over the past few seasons, which included a national championship last year, Pitino has always been very vocal about Smith’s decision-making abilities on the court. After all, he did coin the term “Russdiculous” to describe some of the plays, both good and bad, Smith has made during his career.

Saturday, after Louisville’s third round victory over Saint Louis, Pitino went after Smith again – this time in his post-game press conference. He was very upset about Smith not understanding how other teams and coaches scout him. He also made a comment that seemed to suggest that Smith will get some sort of “shock treatment” in practice in Monday.

While it’s not entirely apparent what the Billikens did to throw Smith off his game, it did appear to work. He shot just 3-of-10 for the contest and turned the ball over seven times.

Louisville gets the winner of Wichita State and Kentucky next week. You can be sure that Pitino will give Smith an earful on how he thinks either John Calipari or Gregg Marshall will plan on defending him.
