Report: Florida State RB James Wilder To Declare For NFL Draft

In this morning’s press conference following the BCS National Championship Game, Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher said that he only expected “three or four” FSU players to head to the NFL following the season — the Noles should be stacked again in 2014. Just a few hours later, the first departure has come, as backup running back James Wilder will enter May’s draft:

Wilder’s role actually diminished in 2014 — he only had 81 carries, but still managed to earn seven yards per rush and score eight touchdowns. He is a powerful, bruising back, and rated as one of the top running backs by NFLDraftScout.com. It’s not a huge surprise to see him go pro at this point, considering his diminishing role within the offense and the fact that he has an infant daughter to care for — plus, getting to ride off into the sunset after a national title win isn’t too shabby either.
